EDUCATION

EMPLOYMENT
1975-1976   Joined Scots Guards (British Army) and trained as a boy soldier
Learned pipes under expert tuition and trained as a soldier.

1976-1977   Joined the Scots Guards Regiment as a Piper
Worked as a soldier and as a piper performing at concerts with the Pipe Band including  two State Banquets at
Buckingham Palace.

1978   At Edinburgh Castle doing Senior Piper’s Course.

1979-1980  L/Cpl to L/Sgt.

1980/81 - Attended Pipe Major’s Course at Edinburgh Castle. Passed with A Grade.

1982-1984- Travelled with the Regiment and Pipe Band in Far East - Hong Kong, Korea
Thailand, Malaysia, Australia etc.

1985 - Promoted to Sgt. Played at British Embassy in Washington for the Prince and Princess of Wales at a
dinner with President George Bush.

1987 - Promoted to Pipe Major of the Scots Guards Pipes and Drums, 2nd Battalion. Toured the US, Canada,
Europe, Africa, Far East etc. Became Senior Pipe Major in British Army and featured as the Senior P/M for
several years at the Edinburgh Military Tattoos. Involved in teaching pipes, producing concerts, shows, doing
Public Duties at Royal occasions, and choosing music for special events.

1993 - Became Pipe Major of lst Battalion of Scots Guards when they amalgamated with 2nd battalion.
Continued doing duties in London as a piper and Pipe Major of the Band.

1994 - Became Piper to HM Queen Elizabeth 11

1998 - Retired November as Piper to the Sovereign. Officially retired from Scots Guards January 1999.

1999 - Head of Piping, New Hampshire School of Scottish Arts, Manchester
